The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department and Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio, in collaboration with the Salvation Army, opened the Getting to 1 Diaper Bank this month to help low-income parents. The Getting to 1 Diaper Bank will begin as a pilot project to assess the greatest need for diapers in Lucas County, as well as to solidify the referral process.
Home visitation agencies that have an agreement with Lucas County Job & Family Services and the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department and refer to the Crib 4 Kids class can send their clients to the Getting to 1 Diaper Bank. The length of time for the pilot project has not been determined, but the diaper bank could expand community wide.
Getting to 1 is the Ohio Equity Institute’s team working to decrease infant mortality in Lucas County, one of Healthy Lucas County’s five priority areas in the 2015-2018 Community Health Improvement Plan.
