Eat Fresh, Live Well is working to increase access to fresh produce and other healthy food in corner stores. The team wants to ensure people who live in low-income Toledo neighborhoods without large supermarkets nearby can buy healthy, affordable food.
The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is helping multi-unit housing complexes adopt smoke-free policies. Secondhand smoke is especially dangerous for pregnant women, babies and children. It also can worsen health conditions for those who are ill.
The Northwest Ohio Pathways HUB is connecting low-income residents to needed medical care and social services. Community health workers assist residents with getting medical coverage, health services, food, housing, clothing, transportation and other basic needs.
